Linking performance drivers in production planning and inventory control to process choice

Article Abstract:

A study revealed how process choice is affected by production planning and inventory control decisions. Results revealed that decisions pertaining to the aggregate plan, materials management, and production scheduling must be related with process choice and that these decisions influence the operations function. Thus, the operations performance of job and batch shops improves when the uncertainty and complexity are better managed through shorter planning for master production scheduling and effective manipulation of the labor capacity.
