Lodging complaints; Marriott faces outcry from 1980s buyers of hotel partnerships; income flowing through was low and managing fees high, investors contend; firm: all risks were disclosed

Article Abstract:

Back in 1987 investors could buy a limited partnership share in The Desert Springs resort in Palm Desert, Calif., for $100,000. Then the Marriott organization charged the investors large sums to run the hotel. The investors expected, on projections from Marriott, to earn about $140,000 per share over 10 years. Instead, the investors were drained with contract fees and now Marriott bought the resort back for $40,880 per share. This is just one example of why investors are complaining.
