Drugstores have consolidated their positions during the early 1990s through mergers and alliances. Many drugstore companies, such as Walgreen, have also installed state-of-the-art point-of-sale systems and integrated information programs. Several have started mail-order businesses to take advantage of the managed care health market. Stocks such as Walgreen, Big B and others will outperform the market for the next 3 to 5 years.
