Lot splitting in stochastic flow shop and job shop environments

Article Abstract:

Computer simulations were carried out to evaluate the performance of deterministic lot splitting policies in stochastic job shop and stochastic flow shop environments. The results indicated that all the lot splitting forms lessened mean flow time and standard deviation of flow time. They also emphasized that the number of lot splits has a more significant role than the specific lot splitting method employed. This is because differences in forms become negligible with increasing variability and capacity utilization.

A model for master production scheduling in uncertain environments

Article Abstract:

Master production scheduling (MPS) in an uncertain demand environment is analyzed using a rolling schedule. An anlytical model that is easy to manipulate is presented which estimates the average system cost per period of a rolling schedule procedure which will minimize errors that would result in costly MPSs. Factors such as the unit change cost function, the forecast error function and culuative lead time are considered when applying the model.
