Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows

Article Abstract:

Lotus Development Corp has just introduced a new version of Lotus 1-2-3 that can operate in the graphical user interface (GUI) environment. Lotus 1-2-3 For Windows runs under Microsoft's Windows 3.0 and is equipped with a number Windows-related features, including logical pull-down menus, 'dialogue boxes,' and scroll bars and a mouse's 'click-and-drag' feature which make it easier and faster for users to move around the spreadsheets. The Windows environment also allows users to view and attend to various activities simultaneously. Despite these new features, Lotus For Windows is completely compatible with other 1-2-3 versions thereby allowing files to be interchangeable. Version 1.0 of the new program, however, has several problems. The most notable of these is its slowness particularly in operations involving intensive data entry.

Article Abstract:

Carnival Cruise Lines Inc. has replaced its existing accounting software system with Oracle Applications for finance. The package previously used by the company could no longer offer the functionality that it required to enable it to pursue its growth strategies. After realizing the flexibility and reliability of Oracle products, Carnival Cruise installed the purchasing, general ledger and accounts payable modules of Oracle Applications at its Miami headquarters, allowing users to rapidly retrieve purchase order, receiving and payment information on-line. Moreover, time-consuming manual processes are eliminated and general ledger month-end close is shortened by one week. Finally, it allowed Carnival Cruise to reduce its accounting staff by 40%.
