Low Plateau

Article Abstract:

A survey of over 1000 chief executive officers of small businesses gathers information about their perceptions of economic conditions for the last quarter of 1982. The general feeling is that the recession has bottomed out, although most surveyed remain cautious about future sales and profits. Most have no plans to change their employment levels, and believe their inventories are just about right. High interest rates have had an effect on borrowing plans for these firms, and many plan to reduce their total debts. Politically, those surveyed are pro-Republican, both for business and for the nation in general.

Handling uncertainty: do managers in the People's Republic of China, the US, and the UK differ?

Article Abstract:

Peter Smith, Mark Peterson and Zhong Ming Wang surveyed British, American and Chinese business managers to test the hypothesis that Asian and Western managers differ in the sources of guidance and support they tap when faced with uncertain work situations. Their findings provide support for this assumption. Western executives showed greater reliance on their own experiences and skills, while Chinese executives were found to depend more on rules and procedures.
