Major shifts in leadership lie ahead

Research into the major challenges to family-owned businesses indicates that within five years from 1997, 28% expect a major change in leadership usually because of retirement. But the firms polled expect to retain family control. Tips are offered on how to plan for these shifts of wealth and power.

A coming sea change in leadership: a gender gap in ownership may be closing, the active shall inherit the firm

Article Abstract:

Women own 36% of US businesses and this may impact the selection of the next generation of business leaders. Daughters may have a better chance of taking over from their mothers, or team-leadership strategies may be employed. The bases for rating a family business successful, may also change.
