Article Abstract:

Chief executive of the Hong Kong Provisional Airports Authority Richard Allen is focusing on the building of the new Kai Tak Airport. Allen is the former chairman of Kier Group, UK. The first contract phase the preparation has been funded by equity of 1.1 billion pounds sterling. An extra 3.5 billion pounds sterling is needed for the building phase. Environmental issues have been embraced, such as rare species conservation. Allen is opposed to national contract bias. Contracts will be awarded to companies that offer, cost efficiency, quality performance and to those who have a Hong Kong working knowledge.

Forecasters predict La Nina will linger until June - at least

Article Abstract:

The latest prediction from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service indicates that the La Nina weather pattern will last at least until June 1999. La Nina has already caused record levels of snowfall and subzero temperatures in the Midwest and the Northeast, heavy rains in the Northwest and conditions that stimulate tornadoes in the South. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has already recorded 101 tornadoes since the start of 1999.

Mid weight gain tied to shortened life

Article Abstract:

Nurses aged 30 to 55 were tracked to see how modest weight gains during middle age would effect incidents of premature deaths. The study showed that thinner women, at least 15% under the average US weight, had the lowest incident of premature deaths. The research method is discussed.
