Multiple-unit franchising

Multiple-unit franchising (MUF), when one franchisee manages more than one franchise, is increasingly popular. MUF is advantageous to the franchisor because the franchisee can act as a local representative of the company, while franchisees benefit from their increased authority.

The growth of retail franchising should continue, as half of all consumer spending by the year 2000 is expected to be at retail franchises. Still, franchises had to adapt during the recent recession to ensure their viability for the future. An industry overview is included.

Franchising beats the recession

Many franchises continue to be successful even during the recession. Most have the ability to change with the economy. They have a narrow focus and can deliver their products or services to the consumer at reasonable prices.
