Absolut's latest ad leaves bottle behind

Article Abstract:

New print ads for Absolut Vodka will feature black and white photos by Helmut Newton of wheat fields and other scenes from the Swedish town where the vodka is distilled. With one exception, the ads, by TBWA Chiat Day, will not feature the usual shot of the vodka bottle. The change in approach is an effort to counter competition from new 'super-premium' vodkas that have recently challenged Absolut's dominance of the market.

NBC's acceptance of liquor ads could hurt the beer companies

Article Abstract:

Beer, the high profile commercial television poster child will soon be feeling competitive fires from the liquor industry, which has a deal for advertising on NBC. U.S. beer companies will probably lose about 5% in sales this year while foreign beers may be up 8% so the timing is unfortunate for the domestics. Placement of ads is essential for brand awareness and now liquor will be competing for attractive air space. ABC, CBS and Fox have refused to lift the ban on liquor advertising which pleases the American Medical Association, among others.
