New faces, old demands

Article Abstract:

The decline in membership of organized labor unions has resulted in a more aggressive recruitment stand by the unions. To protect business interests from unwanted labor organizations, companies should resolve all forms of workplace discrimination, train management to avoid union provocations, provide benefits that are competitive to those being offered by unions and comply with all applicable rules and regulations. However, the most effective means is still the provision of good salary levels and good management implementation.

How'm I doing?

Article Abstract:

Management styles can be improved through the solicitation of feedback from clients and subordinates. Techniques for assimilating feedback consist of asking for specifics, being prepared for candid replies and encouraging consistent feedback. Feedback would be difficult to obtain if managers hesitate to ask first and personnel are not encouraged to volunteer information. A fifteen-point questionnaire for the evaluation of management style is also included.
