New product activities and performance: the moderating role of environmental hostility

Article Abstract:

The success of introducing new products depends heavily on the capability of a company to observe the process of new product development (NPD). Findings shows that a proficient performance of NPD activities often leads to a successful launching of new products while skipping of steps in order to accelerate product introduction almost always results to poor performance. Observance of NPD process is highly important in markets that are competitive and hostile. In this environment, the opportunity for success of product introduction due to proficient performance of NPD process is higher.

Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process in new product screening

Article Abstract:

The use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a decision support model to aid managers in the screening of new product ideas was evaluated. It was seen that AHP is most useful as a complement to other screening models such as NewProd-based checklists. It is a management science tool that is suited to the screening decision. The process on how the AHP can be incorporated into a sophisticated information system is illustrated.

Are really new product development projects harder to shut down?

Article Abstract:

Managers are more likely to embark on risky new product development (NPD) via commercialization when the product is more innovative. Furthermore, managers were more dedicated to the more innovative products despite the unfavorable information obtained during development. Future research can heighten the level of knowledge of escalation of commitment in NPD by concentrating on more antecedents of escalation of commitment.
