Newspaper industry

Article Abstract:

Stocks in the newspaper industry have fallen early in the year 2000, although the fundamentals for the industry have remained positive except at TV station operations. Rising newsprint costs, slow advertising sales, and attracting new readers remain problems, however. Investors should avoid these stocks for the year 2000.

Newspaper earnings have not grown as both retail and classified advertising have been week during the year 2001. The industry has also become cost conscience in order to protect profit margins. There are few stocks of interest to investors in this sector.
