No boom, but advertisers still have some bounce

Article Abstract:

Forecasts for advertising expenditure in Australia in 2001 are presented, with comparative data of advertising performance in 2000. Growth in advertising expenditure is predicted for 2001, despite the fact that 2001 is expected to be one of consolidation after the financial boom of 2000.

Fading denim

Jeans sales have remained the same among the baby boom generation since the 1970s, but young people will not buy them in the 1990s because they are worn by their parents and, therefore, unpopular. Some jeans manufacturers are selling non-denim products to expand their product range.

Issues are presented concerning the sales which are expected by the toy retailing industry during the Christmas season in 2000. The effect of the Sydney Olympics and the elimination of sales tax on toys on consumer spending are discussed.
