Mitre 10 is a marketing and buying co-operative of 720 owner-operated stores and has a 13.8% share of the hardware market and a retail turnover of its members estimated at $1.52 billion. Taxing times ahead for charities

Article Abstract:

Most Australian charitable organizations are not prepared to face the compliance pressures of the goods and services tax (GST) and the extension of the fringe benefits tax (FBT). The coming of the FBT and the GST will impose new demands on the budgets of charities. As more Australians make charitable donations, the donating community expects accountability from charities. Australia's top 30 charities raised $560 million from the public in 1998.
