Non-normality and the design of control charts for averages

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing non-normality and its impact on control chart design is presented. Skewness and kurtosis are applied to evaluate non-normality performance and design. It is shown that non-normality influences control charts for averages. The degree of data non-normality must be considered in the preparation of design structures for such charts. In addition, contrl charts are tested for their ability in identifying causes of variation factors.

Interaction between concurrent transactions in the design of distributed databases

Article Abstract:

An aid to selecting the optimal design for a distributed database is presented, based on an interaction module that measures the interaction effect in a multiuser database with concurrent transactions. Decisions made on partition and allocation in design of the distributed database may have effects on interaction delays experienced. A systematic approach to incorporating such effects is presented.

Modeling network latency and parallel processing in distributed database design

Article Abstract:

The design of distributed data systems is important factor since high bandwidth network latency and local processing affect the query and update response time. Consideration of parallel processing at design time improves performance and a comprehensive approach to achieve this goal is discussed.
