Offshoring in the New Global Political Economy

Article Abstract:

The author disputes the theory that outsourcing produces mutual benefits, and argues that wage reduction via outsourcing may produce wealth for shareholders but does not necessarily for employees or nations. By separating geographic location and economic value production, outsourcing shifts the balance of power among employees, companies, and nations.

The article examines persuasive rhetoric as a tool used by both corporate insiders and outsiders to define an entity's identity in an online forum. Discussion focuses on how language makes persuasion more visible and how perceptions of organizations in dynamic contexts illustrate new methods for conceptualizing identity.
