Order release in automated manufacturing systems

Article Abstract:

The efficiency of three order release mechanisms (ORMs) were evaluated to obtain a set of guidelines for improving scheduling in automated manufacturing systems. The ORMs were analyzed for their design variables using different propositions and performance criteria incorporated in three discrete event simulation models. Results indicate that the efficiency of ORMs is dependent on the willingness of system managers to trade increased time-in-system for lower work in process.

Integrative cycle scheduling approach for a capacitated flexible assembly system

Article Abstract:

Integrative cycle scheduling approaches that simultaneously address limited capacity, lot-sizing and sequencing issues are developed. Under different demand settings, the proposed approaches are compared with benchmark cycle scheduling approaches based on both integrative and separate problem structuring in terms of inventory cost and computer time. Lastly, the efficiency of integrating lot-sizing and sequencing decisions and of the use of cycle schedules is validated.

Constrained forecasting: some implementation guidelines

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing constrained forecasting is presented. The forecasting method has developed as a popular choice for future sales predictions. However, the lack of well-defined implementation guidelines has led to much mixed performance results. It is shown that specific parameters must be set for forecasting activity. Product group size and appropriate grouping criterion are among the parameters which must be specified for successful prediction.
