Article Abstract:

HSBC Securities, a Hong Kong broker, reports that WA Newspapers may purchase 19.9% of the stock of the Fairfax Group. A merger of the two companies would produce pretax profits of $292 and capitalization of $3.4 billion, according to HSBC. In addition, observers believe that Brierley Group of New Zealand plans to divest non-core assets, which may include its 23.87% stake in Fairfax.
