The packaging and container industry is seeing more merger and acquisition activity, such as Crown Cork & Seal and Carnaud Metalbox, and Ball Corp and Foster Forbes. Higher earnings are the expected result of packaging industry consolidation. Materials prices, which can be passed on, have risen over the last 15 months and are now stable. Many stocks in this industry have good earnings prospects and are recommended for investment.

The packaging and container industries are expected to prosper in 1995, in spite of high raw material costs. Manufacturers of aluminum cans and plastic containers raised prices, and that increased demand for glass. Sound investments in this market can be found by analyzing individual company financial results.
