Partnering for success

Article Abstract:

The publishing firm Times Mirror Co partnered with accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP for the implementation of a new accounting software across an array of subsidiary operations. To achieve their goals, the managers of the two companies set up different implementation teams composed of internal and external people that would handle the various implementation projects involved in the initiative. These teams wrote weekly status reports and attended weekly and monthly meetings to improve communication between management and project heads. A project planning workshop was administered at the start of each project to ensure the effective compliance with an implementation standard. Each project was completed in four to eight months, depending on complexity. Ultimately, Times Mirror was able to integrate nine entities into three systems, enhancing communication and cutting costs.
