Pay-As-You-Go Transportation

Article Abstract:

Secretary of Transportation Drew Lewis, talks about the Government's policy of gradually withdrawing Federal funds from America's transportation system. Others argue that we are approaching a crisis in transportation in this country, with the trains in serious trouble, and highways deteriorating. Lewis says users must pick up more and more of the transportation costs.

GRAIN PRODUCTION AND EXPORT IS UP SIGNIFICANTLY. STUDIES PREDICTED HANDLING AND TRANSPORTING PROBLEMS THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE DEALT WITH BY THE YEAR 2000 BUT FACILITES ARE INADEQUATE RIGHT NOW. THE TRUCK STRIKE AND FUEL SHORTAGES CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM.
