Article Abstract:

The timeliness ranking for the petroleum (producing) industry has fallen somewhat in the 1st qtr of the year 2000, although they have risen in the last two years. Improved earnings and cash on hand, the good outlook for natural gas, and the possible production increase by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries are some of the industry trends in early 2000. Investors will find several good stocks here, given the cyclical nature of the industry.

Stocks in the petroleum (producing) industry have remained timely in 2000 and the 1st qtr of the year 2001 with good earnings-per-share. Natural gas prices have cooled, however, but industry consolidation is expected to continue, and some federal lands may be open to exploration. There are several good issues in this industry for investors.
