Planning the Connection

Article Abstract:

Microcomputer-based distributed processing offers several benefits. It reduces the mainframe workload, reduces data communications traffic, provides the user with a powerful analytical tool, and facilitates the use of eye-catching graphics. There are, however, two software problems that need to be addressed. First, program-system generators need to become aware of the local processing capabilities of nodes within the network. Second, network architectures should take advantage of a microcomputer's local storage so that unsolicited system messages can be captured for later examination.
