Pope visits three African states

Article Abstract:

Pope John Paul II traveled to Benin, Uganda and Sudan Feb 3-10, 1993. In Benin, the Pope warned the clergy against becoming too involved in politics, while in Uganda he told the people to forget past conflicts and respect human rights. In Sudan, the Pope expressed hope for an end to the civil war.

Pope tours three African nations

Article Abstract:

Pope John Paul II visited Cameroon, South Africa and Kenya Sep 14-20, 1995. His trip to South Africa was the first since he became pope and resulted from the abolition of the apartheid system. He described his goals for the Catholic Church in Cameroon, and addressed ethnic tensions in Kenya.

Pope John Paul II tours U.S.; visits New York, New Jersey, Maryland

Article Abstract:

Pope John Paul II traveled to New York, NY; Newark, NJ; and Baltimore, MD Oct 4-8, 1995. He spoke at the United Nations about how it could better manage nationalism and fundamentalism in countries, and denounced abortion at a mass held in Newark, NJ.
