Prison chief fired amid criticism

Article Abstract:

The head of UK's prison systems, Derek Lewis, has been dismissed from the post just before the issuance of a government report criticizing prison security in the country. The dismissal prompted the opposition Labour Party to move to censure British Home Secretary Michael Howard for the dismissal.

Chretien names new CBC chief

Article Abstract:

Beatty was selected by Chretien to replace Anthony S. Manera, who resigned in Feb 1995. Beatty's qualifications include service as communications minister and service in other cabinet positions. The CBC lost 4% of its funding in FY 1995 because of budget cuts, and further cuts are expected.
