Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people

Article Abstract:

Organizations have found that they can be more successful when they value their employees and provide incentives that promote skill acquisition, teamwork and quality performance. Some effective management practices include providing employment security, incentives, competitive wages as well as allowing employees to participate in decision making. Team building can also be enhanced by ensuring a free flow of information and allowing employees to learn skills in a wide variety of operations within the organization.

Article Abstract:

A manager's perspective is the key variable in managing people in ways that promote profits, productivity, real organizational learning, and innovation. A right perspective promotes the development of new strategies designed to advance organizational success. It also allows an irrefutable business to realize sources of competitive advantage. Managers are urged to have a better understanding of the importance of people in organizations.

It is contended that in order to attain competitive success through people, basic alterations in the employment relationships are required. Competitive advantage calls for treating the workforce as a source of strategic advantage, rather than costs to be avoided.
