Putnam turns to TV with unusual pitch

Margeotes/Fertitta and Partners Inc. created print TV ads for Putnam Investments that Putnam hopes will sell investors on the fund company's long term approach. Putnam is the fourth largest company in the mutual fund industry, and manages $320 billion. It sells through brokers and financial advisors only. Putnam is using the campaign to build brand recognition in a market crowded with competitors.

Palm banks on holiday blitz to lift sales

Hand-held computer-maker Palm Inc. has launched a new TV and Web ad campaign it hopes will jump-start its 2001 holiday sales. The multi-million dollar campaign, developed by the San Francisco, CA office of AKQA ad agency, targets potential customers by highlighting what distinguishes Palm's products from those of rivals like Microsoft's Pocket PC.

Burlington Northern to plug freight line
