Congress eyes a piece of the rock

Article Abstract:

A Congressional bill to charge 8% royalties on minerals and further regulate mining on government land would probably cause mining companies to relocate abroad, thus draining a domestic economic investment. Another bill calling for only a 2% royalty is more reasonable.

Putting the brakes on federal rules

Federal regulation compliance costs almost $600 billion each year, and Congress has placed a high priority on regulatory reform to reduce these costs. Proposals include limiting unfunded mandates and improving the Regulatory Flexibility Act and Paperwork Reduction Act.
