Qwest to unveil pact to acquire Icon CMT Corp

Qwest Communications International Inc. will announce that it has reached an agreement to purchase Icon CMT Corp. Qwest will acquire the Internet service provider in an exchange of stock worth approximately $185 million. The transaction is part of an attempt by Qwest to construct a network based Internet technology all over the US. The company will be able to offer a wider range of Internet services to companies as a result of the deal.

WorldCom quietly completes MCI Communications purchase

SBC Communications Inc.'s and Ameritech Corp.'s merger plans may be dependent upon what federal regulators think of a competitive showdown that was about to take place in St. Louis. Before merger plans, SBC had been planning to take some of Ameritech's residential customers in what would have constituted the first move of a Bell into another Bell's territory.
