Rape case judge's ruling stirs row

Article Abstract:

A Victoria, Australia judge gave a rapist a lenient sentence because the victim was unconscious at the time of the rape. The judge's sentence was later overturned by a higher court. There is a great deal of public outrage over this and other recent sexual assault case rulings.

Japan: U.S. servicemen charged in Okinawa rape

Three US servicemen were arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl in Okinawa, Japan, by Japanese officials. The incident heightened tensions between the US and Japan, and many Japanese believe the incident demonstrates changes needed to the Status of Forces Agreement.

Boxer Tyson convicted of rape

Article Abstract:

Boxer Mike Tyson was convicted on Feb 10, 1992, of raping an 18-year-old beauty-pageant contestant in Jul 1991. The jury, consisting of nine men and three women, deliberated for 9-1/2 hours.
