Real estate investment trust

Article Abstract:

The real estate investment trust (REIT) industry suffered a blow when the Congress repealed the tax benefits for "paired-shared" REITS, and much of the legislation concerning REITs is expected to be changed in the future. The economic performance of REITs has not been good in the 1990s, although few have lost money, and the industry has become defensive. There are several future scenarios for REITs which investors must consider.

Article Abstract:

Real estate investment trust industry stock prices have decreased for several quarters although a rebound was experienced in broad market indices during Jul 1998. Higher property purchase prices and an economic slowdown are attributed to the change in investment strategy by institutional investors. Even a decrease in interest rates did not stop the increase in sales.
