Rejuvenate your accounting staff

Article Abstract:

Employee morale was badly battered by recent corporatee practices such as staff reduction and overtime requirements. This should be a concern to accounting department managers because low employee morale translates to low productivity and innovation. Given that the economy is finally recovering, now is the best time for managers of accounting departments to rebuild the morale of their staff. Motivation can be facilitated by demonstrating their trust to their employees, initiating two-way communication with staffers, introducing clear and attainable corporate and departmental goals, giving employees the opportunity to contribute to the organization, recognizing achievements and 'rightsizing.' Creativity, on the other hand, can be enhanced by listening to employees' ideas, accommodating the peculiar characteristics of creative people, rewarding risk-taking and offering both sides of an argument.

How JIT staffing can add value to your accounting department

Article Abstract:

Just-in-time (JIT) staffing can be a highly valuable strategy for accounting departments. This concept involves the careful evaluation of departmental staffing priorities, which is then used as a basis for assigning projects to either full-time and temporary employees. Full-time employees function as a core staff unit that focuses on priority projects while temporary employees act as a contingency group that takes care of planned and unplanned seasonal fluctuations, rush projects and workload peaks. The advantage of hiring temps is that they can focus on particular tasks and are flexible enough to satisfy unexpected demands, thereby improving the quantity and quality of work in the department. Realizing the value of temps, the core staff then concentrate on strategic issues and daily execution. The overall effect is reduced concerns about staffing, overwork and burnout.

Strategic staffing

Article Abstract:

The accounting department is a vital part of any company. However, they are not always spared from the effects of recession, which makes personnel reduction necessary. Strategic staffing can help accounting managers in 'rightsizing' their personnel. This popular management approach calls for a study of staffing requirements based on company goals and then looking for the best combination of permanent and temporary employees to answer those goals. Accounting departments can stay competitive by maintaining high quality and production standards given work deadlines. These may be accomplished with the help of temporary accountants who can help deal with workload peaks and valleys, energize others while offering new approaches to work and provide assisstance in one-time projects. Strategic staffing should be subject to regular analysis to be effective.
