Total productive maintenance: a contextual view

Article Abstract:

The contextual differences of industrial plants were examined to determine the types of firms that have adopted total productive maintenance (TPM) strategies. To this end, a theoretical model that takes into consideration the effects of managerial factors such as employee involvement, total quality management and just-in-time, as well as organizational and environmental factors, was developed. It was found that managerial contextual factors exert greater influence on TMP implementation than environmental contextual factors. These results stress the overall importance of managerial, organizational and environmental issues in the execution of TPM programs.
