Patriotism edges out promotion in messages designed to unite U.S

Article Abstract:

In the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center, advertisers and outdoor ad companies are quickly changing consumerist messages to those of community spirit. Some promoters are offering messages on where and how to donate and help with the relief effort. The Outdoor Advertising Association of America is displaying a simple patriotic message as is Matsushita Electric Industrial which operates the Times Square display. Companies are also putting up similar messages on posters on pay phones. American flags are becoming ubiquitous on outdoor ads, everywhere.
