Transition trajectories for market structure and firm strategy in China

Article Abstract:

Issues related to understanding strategic behavior in transition economies such as China are examined, focusing on the importance of including such factors as organizational capabilities and transaction costs, in addition to social structure and institutional processes, as means to understand strategic behavior. Topics include the use of all factors to predict firm strategies and decision processes; and a Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturer is used in a case study.

Research in the strategic theory of the firm: 'Isolationism' and 'integrationism'

This article examines two theoretical perspectives that influence corporate strategy research. The isolationist approach emphasizes a reliance on either organizational economics or a knowledge-based view while the integrationist approach emphasizes the benefits of combining these perspectives to develop a more comprehensive business theory.

Cognitive and strategic decision processes: an integrative perspective

Article Abstract:

This article examines the influence of cognitive biases on strategic decision making. Biases including an insensitivity to the probabilities of outcomes, a focus on fixed targets, exposure to few alternatives, and illusions of manageability directly affect the processes managers use to make strategic decisions for an organization.
