Large building supply retailers are expected to show sales gains, but the smaller competitors may experience difficulty unless they offer special services. Although huge superstores such as Home Depot have grown rapidly, they may be vulnerable to problems including discrimination suits. Some of the small retailers may avoid consolidation by offering special services to professional builders.
