The dynamics of male retirement behavior

Article Abstract:

The labor market has seen a large number of older working men opting to retire. The employment rate decline is high among males aged 55 to 64 years old. Employment rate for 1993 was posted at 42% compared to the 1978 figure of 75%. Early retirement may be due to factors that lessen the benefits from working such as low wages given to older workers or by factors that raises the benefits from not working such as increased pensions at earlier retirement ages.
