Scheduling and Resource Allocation in a Food Service System

Article Abstract:

A branch and bound algorithm is presented as a solution procedure for the food service scheduling problem. Three interrelated objectives used for this study were (1) to minimize overall production time, (2) to produce right-shifted schedules and (3) to optimize allocation of labor resources. Tables show operations sequences, resource requirements and production time. Flow charts, formulas and graphs are used in an example problem. A limitation of our algorithm is that the schedules are developed for a single serving time. Personnel can be trained to input the data in less than fifteen minutes of instruction time.

The IRS: when to fight, settle, or pay up

Article Abstract:

Having to deal with the IRS could prove to be a very difficult task but it is every taxpayer's right to meet with the IRS for discrepancies in tax payments. Precautionary measures should, however, be considered to have a clear understanding of the situation. This would range from making an appeal to resolve the case, moving the case to the IRS Appellate Division, going to a small claims court or to the Federal District Court of the US. It is, however, important to evaluate the advantages and disadvantage with every step taken.
