Selecting a payroll bureau

Article Abstract:

Small business owners consider in-house payroll processing to be overall less expensive than hiring a payroll service bureau. They believe that outsourcing works best for large companies. This is not so. Aside from freeing company personnel from time-consuming procedure, a payroll service bureau eliminates the risk of costly error. When choosing a bureau for the business, consider selecting the one with services that particularly apply to the company's present and future needs. Factors in helping make this decision are detailed.

Equal Pay and Gender

Article Abstract:

A review of court cases involving the Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act is presented. These cases concern pay differentials and personnel practices that affect an employee's wages. Four allowable defenses are possible if jobs are determined equal. These are a seniority system, a merit system, a system that measures earnings by quantity or quality and any factor other than sex. Policies can be developed by managers so that problems can be avoided. Job evaluation can be used to determine the equality of the jobs.
