Serta lawsuit claims Simmons infringed on mattress patent

Article Abstract:

Serta Inc. filed a patent and trademark infringement lawsuit against its rival, Simmons Co. Serta charged Simmons with patent and trademark violations, and deceptive business practices as well. The suit was filed on April 3, 1998. The suit is a response to Simmons' unauthorized use of a patented mattress design owned by Serta. Serta is seeking an injunction, treble damages, and profits from Simmons' sales of the mattresses.

Interstate Brands unit faces fine by OSHA over asbestos charge

Article Abstract:

Interstate Brands Corp. could be fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the exposure for its employees to asbestos in a surburban Chicago plant. The plant produces Hostess Twinkies and other snacks. The OSHA demanded that Interstate, a division of Interstate Bakeries Inc., pay fines of up to $910,000 for the exposure of workers to asbestos during a January 1998 incident at the Chicago plant.

GM settles lawsuit involving misplacing of airbag stickers

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. (GM) has reached a class-action settlement linked to a lawsuit that involved approximately 1,100 Chevrolet full-size pickup truck owners. These trucks were sold with window stickers stating that they had airbags. However, the trucks did not have any airbags. GM is now offering to repurchase 1996 and 1997 model trucks or provide owners purchase coupons for other Chevrolet products.
