Top-line challenges are being faced by the shoe industry, especially in the athletic shoe sector, and many retailers are launching cost-containment efforts, although sales advantages are needed for future recovery. Fashion footwear is having greater demand, although the future is mixed, and many retailers are expanding globally. Investors are encouraged to diversify their holdings in the industry.
