Strategic alliances, organisational learning and new product development: the cases of Rover and Seat

Article Abstract:

International technology alliances represent a vehicle for accessing new competitive technologies as it enables the partners to share the risks and costs linked to new product development and to more effectively use production capabilities and manufacturing facilities. Such alliances, however, have a success rate of only 50%. A study therefore investigated two examples of companies which entered into international joint ventures and their success or failure within the context of the new product development process.

U.S. says Japan, Brazil dumped steel; price cuts called illegal; steep tariffs planned

Article Abstract:

The Commerce Dept. has ruled stiff tariffs will be imposed on Asia and Brazil for importing steel to the U.S. far below legal prices. If the final ruling is the same as this preliminary ruling, the tariffs will be retroactive to November 1998. 'Dumping' has been on the decline in recent weeks even without the ruling. Being a combination of economics and politics, the ruling does not include Russia at the present time.
