Single-stage and serial production line systems with unreliable machines and general probability distributions

Article Abstract:

Semi-Markov stochastic decision models are developed to analyze the relations of multistage production on demand and production to stock systems with a number of factors. Included are machine breakdown and repair processes and arbitrary demand, among others. The expressions and models presented are appropriate for use in study of multi-stage serial production lines under pull tactics. Among expressions developed are those for average inventory and percentage of lost sales. Also presented are guidelines for the use of the models in evaluation of economic performance of production systems.

Technology use and performance: a field study of broker workstations

Article Abstract:

A field study was conducted on a multifunctional broker workstation using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as research model. Data provided from a sample of brokers and sales assistants at a major investment bank was used to test the research model. The study, however, failed to support TAM because of a poor or incomplete model, poor data and/or response, the nature of the system, and the inadequate voluntary use of the system.
