Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software companies are hopeful that electronic commerce will boost decreasing profits. Australia's leading software companies are restructuring and diversifying product lines to include integrated business applications to complement ERP offerings. Vendors have added supply-chain management and sales-directed electronic business applications to traditional offerings. Increased vendor revenue depends on client willingness to buy such applications.

In 1992, in Brisbane, Dean Merlot displayed that even small companies can have creative and effective advertising and marketing strategies, such as buying 100 branded T-shirts for his best customers, which cost him a lot of money.
