Specifying critical inputs in a genetic algorithm-driven decision support system: an automated facility

Article Abstract:

A method for specifying the genetic mutation, crossover and reproduction probabilities during run time of a genetic algorithm-driven tool designed to support static scheduling decisions in flexible manufacturing systems is presented. The method is evaluated for its ability to determine the levels of specific types of mutation and crossover operators. Results indicate that the method is a potentially useful addition to any genetic algorithm-based decision support tool.

Optimal design of a two-level transportation network with a different unit cost for each secondary link

Article Abstract:

A framework was formulated to devise a two-level hierarchical transportation network composed of a trunk or a primary link and variouse feeder or secondary links. The framework showed that slight differences in the unit costs can create a dramatic alteration in network's optimum location and overall cost. It also illustrated the presence of a wide array of solutions for almost every problem in which the overall cost is just a little higher than the optimal solution.
