Steel (integrated) industry

Article Abstract:

The integrated steel industry continues to have a good year during 1997, with solid 2nd qtr earnings and a stronger economy to back it up. Strong demand for steel has boosted profits, which have also been enhanced by increased productivity and better prices. However, companies still operate with a small error margin and industry capacity is increasing, which may impact the long-range earnings of integrated steel firms. Investors interested in this industry will find some opportunity for long-range profits.

Gains for the industry are expected worldwide for the next three to five years, although these stocks are untimely for 1998.

Steel (integrated) industry

Article Abstract:

The US economy has proven to be resilient to the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s, with only a 1% to 2% growth expected in 1999, and the US steel industry is reflecting this. Steel industry earnings have fallen in 1998, but financial results are expected to improve with a better structure in the future. These stocks are not timely in 1998, but some investors may want to select the better capitalized companies in the steel industry.
