Strategic issue management systems: forms, functions, and contexts

Article Abstract:

Organizations use strategic issue management (SIM) systems to enhance their capacity to adapt. Despite increasing prominence, very little is known about the design and use of these systems. This paper presents typologies of the forms SIM systems can take and the functions SIM systems can serve. It describes how pressures imposed by different contexts affect both the form and function of SIM systems. Implications for theory and practice are discussed. Coordination as energy-in-conversation

Article Abstract:

A theory of coordination as energy-in-conversation is proposed to help the organizational scholars comprehend the emotional and motivational dynamics of coordination. The model describes the way in which people generate and diminish their energy in their attempt to coordinate, and the way in which coordinating affects the effort devoted to the activities in the process.

Categorizing strategic issues: links to organizational action

Article Abstract:

A conceptual model that integrates an interpretive view of organizational decision making is developed. The meanings attached to strategic decisions by the decision maker will determine the organization's response. Information processing and the motivations of decision makers are affected by whether an issue is perceived to be a threat, a challenge, or an opportunity.
