Talk tax now or pay later

Article Abstract:

The Australian government will need to consult with the Labor Party and the business sector to ensure broad support of its business tax reforms. Shadow treasurer Simon Crean has been negotiating with business on the tax package, and that sector's main concern is that retaining large-scale accelerated depreciation will deflate the funding of the tax reform package. The Government is likely to receive only minimal support form Labor on capital gains tax reform.

Quiet revolutionary counters his critics

Article Abstract:

John Ralph's committee has released an 800-page report that details recommendations for Australian business-tax reform. It is estimated that the committee's proposals would eliminate 3000 pages of tax law. The report also proposes cutting individual capital gains tax rates reducing small business' tax burden. Not surprisingly, the wide-ranging report has generated controversy.
