Technology management as part of strategic planning - some empirical results

Article Abstract:

The success of research and development (R&D) strategies experienced in the past are being challenged by various factors such as the decline in the development of new knowledge and external competition. One of the approaches proposed to lessen the impact of these factors and to enhance R&D planning is the integration of technology management. However, the success of R&D planning based on technology management needs an understanding of basic technology management ideas and the establishment of an ideal technological environment.

R&D performance measurement: more than choosing a set of metrics

Article Abstract:

The R&D performance measurement procedures of companies in the Netherlands are investigated. Results show that the most effective measurement procedures were those conducted on a regular basis with the participation of internal customers. On the other hand, the least effect procedures were based on measurements conducted annually or semi-annually and performed only by R&D managers. Effective procedures also has broad objectives and supported process improvement and strategic adaptation.

Innovation via new ventures as a conversion strategy for the Chinese defense industry

Article Abstract:

A study reveals that Chinese firms can facilitate their shift to civilian markets by establishing new companies via resources formerly intended for military innovation and production. Setting up new firms eliminates problems caused by conflicting innovation systems within one company. These new firms can also obtain knowledge and resources from established military producers.
